MAKE self defence and women rights as part of curriculum: Paramjit Landran

Chandigarh, August 4, 2013: Punjab Women commission would write to Punjab Education Department to introduce Self Defence & Women Rights as an additional subject in schools and colleges.

Divulging this here, Paramjit Kaur Landran said that to aware women at early stage of their life about their rights and to train them about self defence it is the need of hour to take such concrete steps for welfare of women. She said that Women Commission is also launching a state wide awareness campaign to empower women. She added that apart from awaking women about their rights commission would also focus on to aware our younger generation about the ethical values to build healthy society.

Landran said that in this campaign women commission to organize awareness seminars in collaboration with educational institutions and other social organizations all over the state.

The Punjab government’s concrete efforts to provide justice to women at their door steps is paying off as three courts were organized by Punjab Women Commission in the month of July for 12 districts to redress cases related to women issues at Jalandhar, Amritsar and Sangrur, ‘said Landran’. More than 50 cases of districts Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Nawan Seher and Hoshiarpur came up for hearing at Jalandhar, about 50 cases of districts Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Pathankot were redressed at court held at Amritsar and more than 60 cases of districts Sangrur, Mansa, Bathinda and Barnala were redressed at court hearing held at Sangrur. She added that a special court was organized at Chandigarh to redress cases of district Ludhiana more than 50 cases came up for hearing.

Parmjit Landran said that out of 200 cases nearly 40 cases were settled in these courts with the mutual consent of both the parties and other cases were marked to concerned departments for further investigation and next date for hearing was given to the parties.

Landran further said that courts to redress cases of other remaining districts court would be held on August 22 and August 23 at Ferozpur and Faridkot respectively.
