Chandigarh, September 6, 2026: Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon on Sunday welcomed the commissioning of the 18-km SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition)-controlled 11 KV underground power supply network covering Sectors 1 to 8, describing it as a “major step towards making Chandigarh more modern, reliable and future-ready.
The network, commissioned by Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL), was inaugurated by Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria at High Court Chowk, Sector 3 in the august presence of senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon.
“This is a significant milestone in strengthening Chandigarh’s power infrastructure. The SCADA-controlled underground network will enhance the reliability, efficiency and resilience of power distribution across some of the city’s most important areas,” Tandon said.
He added that the use of modern technology in power distribution would help improve operational efficiency and reduce vulnerabilities associated with conventional overhead infrastructure.
“Chandigarh is known for its planned development and modern urban infrastructure. Projects such as this complement the city’s character and will contribute to better civic services for residents as well as uninterrupted power supply to vital institutions,” Tandon said.
Tandon congratulated the UT Administration, CPDL and all officials and technical teams involved in the execution of the project. He also appreciated the initiative to strengthen power infrastructure around Chandigarh’s important judicial, administrative, tourism and heritage landmarks.
The underground network will cover several key installations and landmarks, including the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden and Punjab and Haryana Civil Secretariat.
