Major Anti-Drug Crackdown: Nurpur Police Recover 1 Kg Charas, Arrest Two

The CIA-I team of the Nurpur Police District has achieved two major successes in its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking, recovering more than one kilogram of charas in one case and arresting another alleged drug peddler with heroin in a separate operation.

Dharamshala, June 28, 2026: The CIA-I team of the Nurpur Police District has achieved two major successes in its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking, recovering more than one kilogram of charas in one case and arresting another alleged drug peddler with heroin in a separate operation.
Providing details, Nurpur Superintendent of Police Ilma Afroz said that on Sunday, a CIA Nurpur team was conducting crime prevention patrols and anti-narcotics checks in the Ganoh, Jasur and Nurpur areas. During the operation, police received credible intelligence that a young woman from Palampur was travelling on an HRTC bus carrying a large quantity of charas.
Acting swiftly on the information, the police intercepted the HRTC bus near Baud Chowk, Jasur. During the search, officers recovered 1 kg and 6 grams of charas (gross weight) from the bag of Gungun (19), daughter of Shashi Kumar, a resident of Village Khildu, Post Office Bindraban, Tehsil Palampur, District Kangra.
The contraband was seized and samples were sealed on the spot after completing all legal formalities. A case has been registered against the accused at Nurpur Police Station under Sections 20 and 29 of the NDPS Act, and she has been arrested.
SP Ilma Afroz said that the accused is being interrogated to ascertain the source of the contraband and identify the intended recipients. Police are also investigating the backward and forward linkages of the drug supply network.
In another operation, the Nurpur Police arrested an alleged drug trafficker from Amritsar, Punjab, and recovered 16.41 grams of heroin during a naka near Matholi in Jasur.
Acting on specific intelligence, the police established a checkpoint and intercepted a suspicious man. During the search, officers recovered 16.41 grams of heroin from his possession. The accused has been identified as Karan Kumar (24), a resident of Gali No. 2, Maqboolpura, Tehsil and District Amritsar, Punjab.
The heroin was seized on the spot, and the accused was arrested. A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is in progress.
The Nurpur Police reiterated their commitment to intensifying the drive against drug trafficking and taking strict action against those involved in the illegal narcotics trade.
