Lyallpur Khalsa College celebrates Bhagat Singh’s Martyrdom day
Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar organised a series of literary competitions to commemorate the martyrdom day of the great freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. The programme featured essay writing, poetry, and elocution competitions, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students across various academic disciplines.
Jalandhar, March 21, 2026: Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar organised a series of literary competitions to commemorate the martyrdom day of the great freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. The programme featured essay writing, poetry, and elocution competitions, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students across various academic disciplines.
Presiding over the event, Principal Dr. Rachpal Singh Sandhu paid heartfelt tributes to the martyr. He remarked that Bhagat Singh was not only a revolutionary but also a profound thinker whose ideals of social justice and equality remain highly relevant today. He expressed happiness at seeing the youth connect with his philosophy and encouraged students to draw inspiration from his spirit of courage and selfless service to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
Acting Head of the Department Dr. Amandeep Kaur highlighted the historical importance of Bhagat Singh’s sacrifice. She stated that his martyrdom ignited a sense of patriotism that ultimately contributed to India’s independence. Through such competitions, the department aims to keep alive his intellectual legacy and inspire future generations of historians and leaders.
Students from the faculties of Science, Commerce, and Arts showcased their creativity and talent through impactful speeches and emotional poems dedicated to Bhagat Singh’s ideology. In the essay writing competition, Harshdeep Kaur (History) and Arshdeep Kaur (B.Com.) jointly secured the first position, while Shivani Pandey and Harshpreet Kaur bagged the second and third positions respectively. In poetry writing, Bhavesh and Moksh secured the first and second positions. In the speech competition, Sharanpreet Kaur, Shivani Pandey, Devansh, and Arshpreet Kaur secured the top three positions.
The event was successfully conducted with the support of Dr. Karanbir Singh, Prof. Amandeep Kaur, and Prof. Zeenat Di, who also served as judges for the competitions. The programme concluded with faculty members and students taking a collective oath to uphold the values of democracy and national integrity.
