Ludhiana, November 8, 2013: In the series of “Catch them young scheme and promotion of sports at grass root level and in rural areas” of the State,  Sports Department, Punjab has accelerated its efforts to achieve the purpose under Panchayat Yuva Karira aur Khel Abhiyan  (PYKKA) Scheme as stated by Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon, Director Sports, Punjab.

Addressing the media persons here on Friday, he added Sports Department is going to organise Swami Vivekananda Punjab State Rural Games for Boys under – 16 this year in 12 disciplines at Guru Nanak Stadium, Luhdiana from November 9 to 11. As Many as 2,500 participants are coming to participate in these games and more than 200 officials have been deputed for the smooth conduct of these games. Director Sports further disclosed that this competition would serve as the base to select teams to represent Punjab at National Level Rural Competitions. He said that the teams would go under coaching camps for intensive training prior to participation at National level.

Giving detail of the competition to be organised, Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon said 12 disciplines are Athletics, Basketball, Boxing, Football, Hockey, Handball, Judo, Kho Kho, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Weightlifting, and Wrestling. For inspecting all the arrangements Rupinder Singh, Assistant Director Sports, Punjab has been deputed by the Sports Department as Nodal Officer to supervise all the arrangements for the games. According to him the grounds for all the games are ready. Athletics, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Basketball, Volley Ball, Judo, Boxing, wrestling and Weight Lifting will be conducted at Guru Nanak Stadium itself where as Hockey, Football and Hand Ball will be conducted at Punjab Agriculture University.  He also disclosed that a Special Arrangement of Buses has also been made by the district Administration.

All the arrangements for the accommodation, catering, transportation, medical, security etc. have been finalised. Neeru Katyal, A.D.C (G), Ludhiana has been deputed to coordinate with the Sports Department regarding all the arrangements. All the 22 districts have been  lodged at different 22 schools for  comfortable stay. Amritsar has been lodged in Dashmesh Sr. Sec. School, Gill Chowk, Barnala at Govt. High School, Jawadi, Gurdaspur at Govt Sr. Sec. School, Daad,  Ludhiana in Malwa Khalsa Sr. Sec. School,  Bathinda at Govt Sr. Sec. School, Habowal Khurd, Sangrur  in Govt Sr. Sec. School, Model Town,  Fatehgarh Sahib at Vishavkarma Sr. Sec. School, Dholewal,  Ferpzepur in Govt Sr. Sec. School, Kundanpuri, Jalandhar in Govt. Senior Secondary School, Gobind Nagar, Hoshiarpur in Govt Sr. Sec. School, Iyali Khurd, Kapurthala in Harkrishan Sr. Sec. School, Dugri Road, Patiala in Govt Sr. Sec. School, Samitry Road,  Shree Makatsar Sahib in Govt. Senior Secondary School, Tharike, Moga in Gujar Khan Govt Sr. Sec. School, Model Town, Roopnagar in Govt Sr. Sec. School Miller Ganj, Dholewal, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar in N.M Jain Sr. Sec. School, Bharat Nagar,  Faridkot in Govt Sr. Sec. School, Badhowal, S.A.S Nagar in Govt Sr. Sec. Police Administration has made all the  arrangements for opening and closing, all the places of stay and game  keeping in view safety of participants.

Kartar Singh Sehamby, District Sports Officer, Ludhiana informed that all the sports venues are ready for the games. Guru Nanak Stadium has been specially maked up as Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be performed there and playing conditions for the participants have been made comfortable. He also informed that a media centre has been established at Guru Nanak Stadium itself so that results and other necessary information may be collected.

Director Sports  also informed that Opening  Ceremony shall take place  at Guru Nanak Stadium, on November 9, at 11am. Pawan Kumar Teenu, Chief Parliamentary Secretary of Sports and Youth Services and Welfare of SC and BC would be the chief guest on this occasion. The Closing Ceremony shall take place on November 11 at 3 PM at. Guru Nanak Stadium. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Minister for Public Work Department (Building & Roads), Punjab would be the chief guest who would distribute the  prizes to the winners and declare the games closed.
