Ludhiana West leads Punjab in wheat lifting, achieves 87.58% lifting of produce
Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain on Saturday stated that Ludhiana West has emerged as the top-performing district in Punjab in wheat lifting operations, surpassing the prescribed 72-hour lifting norms with an impressive 87.58% lifting rate.
Ludhiana, May 9, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain on Saturday stated that Ludhiana West has emerged as the top-performing district in Punjab in wheat lifting operations, surpassing the prescribed 72-hour lifting norms with an impressive 87.58% lifting rate.
Reviewing the ongoing wheat procurement operations, the Deputy Commissioner stated that Ludhiana West grain markets have so far recorded the arrival of 3,51,021 metric tonnes (MT) of wheat, of which 100% has been procured by various government agencies. Of the total procured stock, 87.58% has already been lifted from the mandis — the highest in Punjab so far. Similarly, Ludhiana East has witnessed the arrival of 3,93,726 MT of wheat, with the entire stock purchased by procurement agencies.
Jain said the district administration is making every possible effort to ensure smooth and hassle-free procurement and lifting operations, reaffirming the Punjab Government’s commitment to safeguarding farmers’ interests. He further revealed that 99% of payments to farmers for the procured wheat have already been cleared, highlighting the government’s focus on timely financial disbursement.
“The Punjab Government is closely monitoring procurement arrangements to ensure smooth functioning in mandis, timely payments, and strict adherence to all guidelines,” said Jain. He added that rapid lifting operations are underway across all grain markets, and officials have been directed to further expedite the process in the coming days.
The Deputy Commissioner also instructed field teams to carry out lifting operations in a systematic and efficient manner to ensure that farmers do not face any inconvenience.
