Ludhiana (West) Bypoll- Sanjeev Arora Wins by 10,637 Votes, Celebrates Resounding Victory
A wave of celebrations erupted today after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora was declared elected from the Ludhiana (West) Assembly constituency in the by-election held on June 19.

Ludhiana, June 23, 2025: A wave of celebrations erupted today after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora was declared elected from the Ludhiana (West) Assembly constituency in the by-election held on June 19.
Supporters celebrated with beating of drums, dancing, and distribution of sweets, as party leaders, family members, friends, and volunteers congratulated Arora on his emphatic win.
Sanjeev Arora won the seat by a margin of 10,637 votes, defeating his nearest rival Bharat Bhushan Ashu of the Congress. Arora secured 35,179 votes, while Ashu polled 24,542 votes. Arora led from Round 1 and consistently widened his margin over both Ashu and Jiwan Gupta (BJP) throughout all 14 rounds of counting, reflecting strong voter support in each round.
At the time of receiving his certificate of election from the Returning Officer, AAP Punjab President Aman Arora, Punjab Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond, and a large number of party leaders and workers were also present.
In his victory remarks, Sanjeev Arora expressed deep gratitude to AAP’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the party leadership, and all volunteers and supporters. "This is the people’s victory. The people have contested and won this election," he said. He even thanked his competitors.
Speaking informally with the media, AAP Punjab President Aman Arora termed the result a "trailer" of the 2027 Assembly elections. He affirmed that the earlier commitment made by Kejriwal and Mann to induct Sanjeev Arora into the Punjab Cabinet "would be fulfilled definitely."
Punjab Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond described the victory as “historic,” calling it the rise of a "new sun." He praised Arora for running a clean and positive campaign.
Meanwhile, Sanjeev Arora announced that a victory procession is planned for tomorrow evening.
Voting for the by-election took place on June 19, and the counting of votes began at 8 a.m. today.
