Ludhiana, June 13, 2025: In a move to ensure the integrity and transparency of the upcoming Ludhiana West by-elections, Expenditure Observer Indana Ashok Kumar held a high-level meeting on Friday with key officials from various enforcement agencies.
The meeting included the Returning Officer -cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rupinder Pal Singh, as well as officials from the Zonal Licensing Authority (Drugs), the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Deputy Commissioner (State Tax), and Customs. The discussions centred on enhancing vigil and implementing stringent measures to prevent electoral malpractices.
Indana Ashok Kumar emphasized the importance of intensified vigilance to curb the circulation of contraband including illicit liquor, narcotics, and other substances that could compromise the fairness of the electoral process. He reviewed detailed seizure reports submitted by the agencies, which covered contraband intercepted since the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). While commending the agencies’ efforts, he urged them to intensify their scrutiny in the days leading up to the election to ensure a process free from inducements. Further, he instructed the agencies to take proactive measures to ensure free and fair elections, and emphasized the need for coordinated action with local law enforcement to prevent these substances from influencing the election.
The Expenditure Observer also highlighted the importance of meticulous planning and the deployment of field teams to monitor and report suspicious activities. He called for regular follow-ups with local officials to ensure smooth communication and prompt action on any leads related to drugs or other contraband. He stressed that unwavering vigilance must be maintained until polling day to protect the democratic process from inducements and manipulations.
Kumar urged all stakeholders to remain proactive and encouraged the public to report any instances of electoral malpractice to the authorities for immediate action.
