Ludhiana, November 22, 2025: The Ludhiana Sanskritik Samagam (LSS) on Saturday afternoon organised a “face-to-face interaction” with artists Denzil Smith, Lillete Dubey, Suchitra Pillai and Sarah Hashmi at a local hotel, ahead of the staging of the acclaimed play Autobiography at Guru Nanak Bhawan this evening at 7:30 p.m.
LSS Programme Secretary Ashim Nagpal and Joint General Secretary Gaurav Sehgal were also present on the occasion.
Sharing details about the play, the organisers said Autobiography is an English play written by renowned Marathi playwright Mahesh Elkunchwar. It premiered on January 25, 2025, in Bangalore during a major theatre festival, followed by its Mumbai premiere on February 2, 2025, at the Royal Opera House, and later travelled to Pune and Goa. The play is emotional, dramatic, and layered with sharp humour.
The story revolves around Anantrao Rajadhyaksha—an aging, admired, and charismatic writer—who is dictating his autobiography to Pradnya, an irreverent and perceptive PhD researcher. In the process, he revisits a previously controversial book about his love life, which included revelations about his contemporaries, his turbulent 30-year marriage to Uttara, and a brief affair with his sister-in-law, Vasanti.
The narrative unfolds through present-day conversations and flashback sequences, allowing characters to share distinct versions of the truth. This structure keeps the audience engrossed, constantly questioning where the real truth lies. As the layers peel away, the characters appear confined by their own perceptions, while the overlapping realities of Rajadhyaksha’s life and the fictional world of his novel further deepen the intrigue. The production is gripping, taut, humorous, and rich in emotional depth.
The play has a runtime of 90 minutes with no interval.
This performance marks the 139th presentation by Ludhiana Sanskritik Samagam.
