In Ludhiana, OPA Celebrated 72nd Independence Day

Ludhiana, August 15, 2018: Independence Day was celebrated at the office of OPA at South City, Ludhiana. Mr. Parveen Aggarwal, President hosted the National Flag outside the official premises of OPA. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Parveen Aggarwal said, it is our privilege to celebrate such a pious occasion at our office.Independence Day iscelebrated on 15th August, as a national holiday in India commemorating the nation's independence from the United Kingdom on 15 August 1947. On 15 August 1947, the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru raised the Indian national flag above the Lahori Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi. On each subsequent Independence Day, the incumbent Prime Minister customarily raises the flag and gives an address to the nation.
Elaborating the importance of Independence Day, Mr. Parveen Aggarwal said, the UK Parliament passed the Indian Independence Act 1947 transferring legislative sovereignty to the Indian Constituent Assembly. India still retained King George VIas head of state until its transition to full republican constitution. India attained independence following the Independence Movement noted for largely nonviolent resistanceand civil disobedience led by the Indian National Congress (INC). Independence coincided with the partition of India, in which the British India was divided along religious lines into the Dominions of India and Pakistan; the partition was accompanied by violent riots and mass casualties, and the displacement of nearly 15 million people due to religious violence. Mr. Aggarwal added it becomes our obligation to remember and to pay reverence to those known and unknown personalities, the unsung heroes the brave and self-less personalities due to them we are living autonomous life.
