Ludhiana, November 28, 2013: Venkatesh Kini, President and CEO, India and South West Asia, Coca-Cola Inc. and an alumnus of IIM, Ahemdabad with more than 24 years of experience in various multi-national corporations, emphasised the importance of creating sustainable businesses while delivering tenth Sardar Manjit Singh Memorial Lecture organised by Ludhiana Management Association (LMA) in the memory of its past president Manjit Singh on November 27 evening which was attended by 200 industrialists, senior executives and professionals.
He urged the entrepreneurs of Ludhiana to create sustainable businesses by focusing on triple bottom line i.e. profits, people and planet rather than only on profits. He narrated various steps taken by his company to engage communities particularly by empowering women and being responsive to the environment by taking steps like water shed management. He stressed that a strong network of companies, governments and civil society needs to be created to carry on the activities related to community development and environment protection. He gave the example of Atlanta city of USA and the role played by various government agencies, NGOs and private sector in bringing glory and investments in the city. He urged the Ludhianvis to carry out the similar program with active participation of government and civil society to replicate the same model of Atlanta city for Ludhiana.
Sachit Jain, President, Ludhiana Management Association in his presidential remarks urged that the sustainability of the businesses can only be achieved if the organisations and civil society are sensitized about all the three aspects i.e. profits, people and planet. Dr. Sandeep Kapur, General Secretary, LMA announced two new programmes i.e. in-house Executive Development Programmes and Management Development Programmes to be conducted at the institutes. Dr. K.
