The Memorandum of Understanding being executed between Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMCH), Ludhiana and Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust (Oxford), UK for faculty and student exchange training programmes.

Ludhiana, November 22, 2013: The Memorandum of Understanding was recently executed between Dayanand Medical College & Hospital and Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust (Oxford), UK for faculty and student exchange training programmes. The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust (OUH) is one of the largest acute teaching trusts in the UK, with a national and international reputation for the excellence of its services and its role in teaching and research.

Secretary of DMCH Managing Society Prem Kumar Gupta extended warm welcome to a team of visitors including Mathew Lawrence (Head of Business Development, Oxford University Hospitals), Dr Steve Cannon from Royal College of Surgeons and Dr. Ajay Gupta  and affirmed his full support in making this MOU a great success for both the institutions. He said that a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations will lead to the development of several innovation projects. The objective of this memorandum is to establish an an administrative arrangement between Oxford and DMCH for the purpose of collaboration in education and training, research and other healthcare activities for the mutual benefit of both the institutions.  

During their visit to DMCH, the team visited all the major areas of the hospital and were apprised of various facilities and services available in the institution. The process of having MOU between the two institutions was initiated by Sunil Kant Munjal, President of DMCH Managing Society, during his recent visit to UK earlier this year. Dr Ajay Gupta, Orthopedic Surgeon in London and alumni of DMCH is coordinating the understanding.

Principal Dr. Daljit Singh said that the basic idea behind the exchange programme is to strengthen long-term bilateral cooperation between two medical institutions in medical education, research and clinical expertise through teachers/students exchange, enrolment of the faculties in doctoral (PhD) and post doctoral research programmes.

Giving details about the MOU signed, Dean Academics Dr. Rajoo Singh Chhina said that both the hospitals have mutually agreed to start Exchange Training Programmes and Exchange Travelling Fellowships at undergraduate, post graduate and faculty level. Interdepartmental Exchange and Joint Clinical Projects on newer innovations and technologies, Joint Research Projects and Exchange Programmes for Nurses/Technicians and Administrative staff has also been included in the scope of this MOU. This will ensure training in the latest techniques to pass on the benefits to our patients in India.
