Ludhiana News/Ludhianvis journey from congested lanes to pollution-free environment

Ludhiana: The overall scenario has changed in this industrial city over the period. Ludhianvis who were living in the interior parts of the city because due to number of reasons. But over the period of time they are getting fed-up, resulting to which they are now finding newer places for living in and around the city.
The interior parts of the city have become more congested because of unplanned urbanization over the decades. Population has increased manifold due to industrialization but the infrastructure was not improved with the increase of population. Besides local population, a large number of people from other cities of Punjab and other states of the country are arriving here in search of bread and butter. The ever increasing vehicular traffic has further aggravating the situation. The lanes and roads in the interior parts of the city are seen congested. Once Chaura Bazaar was one of the most beautiful markets across the city and people from in and around city preferred to visit this market but the population growth has eaten out beauty of Chaura Bazaar. This market has lost its sheen.
A large number of old houses in the narrow lanes in the interior parts of the city are seen permanently locked. The owners have shifted to other parts of the city to reside in open and fresh-air areas. Many houses are seen converted into godowns in the interior parts of the city. People living in narrow lanes and congested areas in the interior parts of the city are facing air pollution and noise pollution. Even 4-km stretch of Buddha Nallah is passing through old area and its condition is extremely polluted due to dumping of industrial effluents and city’s untreated sewerage water into it over the period. Because of pollution of ground water upto the first aquifer the hand pump water is unfit for drinking. The sanitary conditions are pathetic in the interior parts of this city. Efforts are on to get Buddha Nallah pollution-free but nobody knows when the efforts would prove successful.
Over the last decade when real estate groups started arriving in this city with projects of townships, Ludhianvis started taking keen interest. They not only started buying residential plots, villas and apartments for them in these new townships around Ludhiana city but also started investing into these projects. People who shifted to these townships from interior parts of the city strongly believe that they have added many more years to their lives.
