Ludhiana, November 22, 2013: Communal Harmony Campaign & Fund Raising Week under auspices of National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH) was celebrated today at Dayanand Medical College & Hospital. Sunila Gupta was the chief guest.

The welcome address was given by Dr Vidushi Gupta (Professor & Head of Physiology), who briefed the audience about the Communal Harmony Week & Flag Day. In her address, Dr Vidushi Gupta informed that Communal Harmony Week is being celebrated every year since it is a good opportunity for the youth to learn more about communal harmony and national integration.

Besides promoting communal harmony, the NFCH also provides assistance to children rendered orphans or destitute as a result of communal, caste, ethnic or terrorist violence and. The aim of the campaign week is to raise funds for the support of these children

Principal Dr Daljit Singh stressed on the need for promoting communal harmony in the country.  The need of the hour is to make democracy the centre and basis of belief for the maximum possible number of people belonging to all religious-community, sects and sub-sects. Besides ascertaining the stability of the country, communal harmony can also contribute in making India as a leading force of the world in these days of increasing process of globalisation, said Dr Daljit Singh

Amongst those present on the occasion were Medical Superintendent Dr Sandeep Puri, Assistant Dean Academics Dr Sandeep Kaushal and other faculty members of DMCH.

Activities that were held during celebration by medical & nursing students of DMC included Poster Contest, Slogan Contest, Declamation Contest, Choreography, Group Song & Group Dance Competition and Collage Making. The choreography presented by nursing students depicting the events leading up to the hanging of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev received huge applause from the audience.The participants were awarded first, second and third prize in the respective contests. The programme concluded with a proposed vote of thanks by Dr Manjit Narula to the dignitaries and faculty present on the occasion.
