The Additional Director General of Police (Jails) Rajpal Meena on Monday inaugurates the Punjab Sudhar Ghar Games- 2013, at Central Jail, Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, December 2, 2013: The Additional Director General of Police (Jails) Rajpal Meena today inaugurated the Punjab Sudhar Ghar Games- 2013, here at the Central jail, with an appeal to the participants to contribute towards formation of a healthy society by avoiding the use of drugs.
The five day long sports extravaganza, in which 120 prisoners from the jails across the state were participating in different games, was inaugurated with a cultural program. On the occasion the players participated in a splendid march past and took the oath to play the sports with full sportsmanship.
Interacting with the media persons before inaugurating the games, Meena said that in order to wean away the menace of drug addiction from the jails across the state, the drug de-addiction centers have been established in them which were getting very good response. He said that due to such centers more than 7000 prisoners have shunned drugs and have joined the main stream for constructing a healthy society. The ADGP said that the sports have played a vanguard role in achieving this goal due to which it has been decided to make these games an annual feature in the state.
Meena said that while the games were contributing a lot towards ensuring good health of the prisoners, it was also helping in developing positive changes in their mental condition. Giving details regarding the selection of players for this tournament, he said that at the initial level inter Jails sports competitions were held after which the victorious players had competed in the inter zone competition and subsequently the successful players had been selected to compete in these state level games. The closing ceremony of these games would be held on December 6 in which the Cabinet Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur would distribute prizes to the winners, he added.
