A training programme for Cancer Detection, being held today at DMCH, Ludhiana on Saturday.

Ludhiana, September 14, 2013: In continuation with the drive to fight against Cancer, Punjab State Government has initiated a training programme for Cancer Detection, which was held today at DMCH.

The function was formally inaugurated by Secretary of DMCH Managing Society- Prem Kumar Gupta alongwith Dr Ashok Nayyar, Director, Health Services, Punjab. Also present on the occasion were Principal Dr Daljit Singh and Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina.

Giving information, Dr Jai Singh, State Programme Officer, Cancer Control Cell, Chandigarh said that Government of Punjab, in association with Max Health Care, leading Medical Colleges & empanelled Hospitals in the state, is now launching the Cancer Screening Camp in Punjab to detect and treat the cases of cancer in the state.

The camp will be held on 28th and 29th of September at all District Hospitals of the state including Government Medical Colleges in Patiala, Amritsar and Fardikot. Specialist and Superspecialist doctors including clinical staff, technicians and managers etc  from all over the world will take part in this drive against cancer.

Earlier, the biggest and one-of-its kind door-to-door campaign in the world, Government of Punjab has organised ‘Cancer Awareness & Symptom-based Cancer Detection Camp’ to detect cancer at early stage, in December 2012. During the camp, 87,000 patients were examined, out of which 51 percent were reported and for the rest of 49 percent plus new cases, the camp is being organised September 28 and 29.

Key highlights of the camp to be held:

•         Diverse and devoted team of volunteers coming together from the world over

•         High mobilisation of all volunteers and patients

•         Pre-camp training to be imparted to all doctors, paramedics and volunteers.

•         Appropriate diagnostic tests and patient classification to be done

•         Appropriate treatment protocols to be advised to all patients

•         Lodging and Transportation in Punjab to be facilitated by Government of Punjab

•         No language restrictions for participating.
