Ludhiana, September 15, 2013: Welcoming the statement of new Deputy Commissioner of Ludhiana, Rajat Aggarwal, IAS that he will tackle the problems of senior citizens on priority, SP Karkara, IAS (Retd.), who is also President of Federation of Senior Citizens’ Associations of Punjab (FEDSEN-Punjab) besides being President of Senior Citizens’ Welfare Association Ludhiana (SCWAL), said today that it is a heartening news for the elderly and aged persons of the district.
Karkara said that senior citizens, who constitute 10% of the population of the state according to 2011 Census, are the most vulnerable section of the society. They are usually unable to approach the concerned authorities for redressal of their problems due to physical limitations etc. He therefore appealed to the new DC to nominate a Nodal Officer with a dedicated telephone number whom elderly can contact in emergency. Also it will be a great help if DC sets apart one hour once a week when the senior citizens can bring their problems to his personal notice.
Karkara also expressed his gratitude to the previous D.C., Rahul Tiwari for co-operation and help extended by him to SCWAL and expressed happiness over his joining as Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana. He expressed the hope that these two young and enthusiastic officers will continue to work for ensuring life of respect and dignity to senior citizens of Ludhiana.
