Ludhiana, October 1, 2013: Resentment prevails among the shopkeepers running their shops on Mata Rani Road here, as the officials of Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana (MCL) are neither allowing them nor to their customers to park vehicles within yellow line earmarked by the Corporation for the purpose about two decades ago. As a result, their routine business is getting affected badly.
In this connection, a deputation of the shopkeepers led by the Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal (PPBM) leaders including state general secretary Sunil Mehra, state secretary Mohinder Aggarwal and others met the Ludhiana Municipal Commissioner Rahul Tiwari on Monday and apprised him of the whole facts.
The deputation said they were not against if action was taken against anybody found parking his vehicle outside the yellow line. But the business of the shopkeepers should not be got affected under the garb of initiating action against those indulging into encroachments along the particular road.
The LMC was apprised that the yellow line was marked for parking about two decades ago to ensure smooth vehicular traffic on the road. Besides, parking is allowed within the yellow line throughout the city.
On this, the Commissioner assured to the deputation that the parking of vehicles would be allowed within the yellow line, said Sunil Mehra and Mohinder Aggarwal.
They added the Commissioner also deputed the Additional Municipal Commissioner Davinder Singh to visit the spot to have first hand information and report accordingly.
During the visit, Devinder Singh was shown the marked yellow line and traders told him that they would not oppose if the vehicles parked outside the yellow line were challaned.
The deputation was comprised among others of Charanjit Bhargav, Neeraj NK and Shiv Kumar Sharma.
