Ludhiana, September 19, 2013: The Crime Investigation Agency Staff have seized psychotropic drugs worth more than Rs. 7 crore from three godowns in the local Transport Nagar late on Wednesday evening.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Paramjit Singh Gill, Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana added the seizure included 1.43 crore sedative pills and capsules, 11,500 injections and 1,680 cough syrups.
He claimed that this was one of the biggest seizure of psychotropic drugs ever made by the Punjab police.
Police Division No. 6 have registered a case under various sections of the IPC and NDPS against the three accused.
The accused have been identified as Nitin Goyal, his father Pawan Goyal of Moga and Deepak of Haibowal Kalan of Ludhiana.
Police Commissioner told that the accused had produced documents that appeared to be fake. He said the recovery had been made from the godowns of Kamal Goods Carrier, Northern India Goods Private Limited and The Amritsar Transport Company Limited, adding the raid was conducted on a tip-off. A team from health department had accompanied the police party.
He further revealed that the preliminary police investigation revealed that the accused used to procure psychotropic drugs from Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh without bills and used to supply the same to the chemists at the local Pindi Street- the wholesale market of medicines and other markets using fake bills.
Further, Police Commissioner told that the accused had been doing this illegal trade after establishing fake firms in the name of Krishna Agency, Atlas Pharmaceuticals, Goyal Sales Corporation, BG Pharma and HL Pharma.
Further police investigation is in progress.
