Ludhiana, October 2, 2013: The District Congress Committee (Urban), Ludhiana has decided to launch an agitation against the state government for introducing property tax in the state.
At a meeting held here under the presidentship of Pawan Dewan on Wednesday, it was decided to stage a protest dharna on October 7 at 10-30 am outside the office of Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana (MCL), Zone-A Office, near Mata Rani Chowk. The meeting was attended by the party municipal councillors and senior party leaders.
Addressing the meeting, Dewan termed the property tax as “anti-people” and observed that it would put additional economic burden on urbanites who were already under stress of various taxes. He opined that the property tax would put adverse impact on common man, trade and industry. He regretted that the Department of Local Bodies Punjab was with BJP but all the decisions were taken by the deputy chief minister, Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal.
He asked city people to participate in the proposed protest dhrana in large numbers to strongly oppose the property tax.
