Traders to observe September 10 as “black day”
Ludhiana, September 6, 2013: Veteran BJP leader and former Punjab health minister Satpal Gosain and local Congress MLA Surinder Dawar have joined hands against the implementation of e-TRIP System in Punjab by the state government.
Both were not only present at a press conference convened by Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal state general secretary Sunil Mehra but they also emphatically spoke against the state government for introducing e-TRIP System in Punjab, terming it against the interest of the traders’ community.
On the occasion, Mehra announced that the traders’ community would observe September 10 as “black day”. He also announced that the traders would also sat on hunger strike on that particular day at Madhopuri Chowk between 11 am and 5 pm.
Gosain who is also Morcha Dictator of the Mandal told the media persons that the state government should work for resolving problems of the traders and fulfill all promises made to the traders’ community at the time of elections. He announced to join the September 10 protest.
Expressing his views, Dawar too regretted that the present state government was doing injustice with urbanites as compared to the ruralites. He asserted that BJP must raise its voice against e-TRIP, in the interest of the traders’ community. He said the traders would not tolerate faulty policies of the state government.
Sunil Mehra and other Mandal leaders including Charanjit Bhargav and Mahinder Aggarwal alleged that the Department of Sales Tax had become a den of corruption. They regretted that no action was being taken against corrupt officers of the department. They recalled that over 30 departmental officers were booked but the state government was not taking any action against them.
The Mandal leaders apprehended that the implementation of e-TRIP would only lead to more corruption in the department and the traders would face numerous problems, including the problem of cyber crime. They regretted that the state government had not taken into confidence the traders’ community at the time of introducing e-TRIP in Punjab. Yarn Dealers’ Association leader Radhey Sham Ahuja said the state government would have to accept the demand of the traders’ community because the traders were the ultimate “king makers”
The Mandal’s district president Kasturi Lal Mittal and others including Kamal Gupta, Mahesh Sharma and Sandeep Thapar were present.
