Ludhiana gears up for Census 2027 house Listing, Strict action against staff for negligence in duty

Ludhiana, May 6, 2026: District Census Officer-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Poonam Singh on Wednesday announced that the district administration is fully prepared to undertake the crucial house listing phase of Census 2027 from May 15 to June 13, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, accountability, and strict enforcement of duties.
In a video message, Singh stated that around 9,000 enumerators have been deployed to carry out the extensive door-to-door exercise. The house listing operation forms the foundation of the Census and will involve collecting detailed information on housing conditions, amenities, and household assets through a structured questionnaire of 33 key points. Enumerators will gather vital data including the structure and condition of houses, availability of basic amenities such as water, electricity, sanitation, and cooking fuel, as well as ownership status and household composition. Information on assets like mobile phones, internet access, vehicles, and other essentials will also be recorded, making the exercise critical for future planning and welfare schemes.
Highlighting the significance of this phase, Singh said that accurate house listing is essential for effective governance, targeted welfare delivery, and evidence-based development planning. She urged residents to cooperate fully with enumerators and provide correct information.
At the same time, Singh issued a stern warning to all Census officials and field staff, stressing zero tolerance for negligence or dereliction of duty. She directed all personnel to adhere strictly to timelines and perform their responsibilities with utmost sincerity and discipline. Any lapse in duty will invite strict action under relevant legal provisions, including imprisonment of up to three years and financial penalties.
