Ludhiana City gets its first Architecture College in GNDEC campus

Ludhiana, May 30, 2019: The Ludhiana city is the most prosperous and populous city of Punjab with strong cultural heritage and it has witnessed a largest overall development in the state in the last few decades. To take the development in the financial and industrial capital of Punjab to the next level, the Govt of India is developing the city under its Smart City mission which will need a huge trained manpower to serve the local construction industry and people at large in the coming years.

The Council of Architecture (COA), Govt. of India has given its node to start a five year program in architecture (B.Arch) with 40 seats in the local Guru Nanak Dev Engg College campus from the academic session 2019-20. The start of the new program in the region will help to fill up the void by providing trained manpower in this regards which is witnessing a huge infrastructural development under the smart city project.

Principal Dr.Sehijpal Singh said that the B. Arch course was the need of the hour, especially for the Ludhiana based students who have to go to other cities to get a degree in the field of the architecture.

Ar. Sanjay Goel, Chairman, Indian Institute of Architects Punjab Chapter and director of the Ludhiana Smart City also congratulated the Nankana Sahib Education Trust and the GNDEC for taking a lead to open the first Architecture College in the Ludhiana city. The office bearers of the IIA Ludhiana and the local Architect fraternity also extended their best wishes for the upcoming college.

Ar. Harsharan Singh a senior city based architect said the GNDEC with a legacy of more than 60 years shall be the right place for the budding architects. He assured all support and help from the local architect associations and organizations to make this program successful.

“The active support from the well established civil engineering department and the Testing & consultancy cell of the GNDEC College will help the students to acquire professional skills during their study in the college” Dr H.S Rai HOD Civil Engineering Department added.

I. K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar is conducting the online centralized counseling for admission to the B. Arch program. The seat allotment process will be conducted based on the merit list prepared on the basis of NATA score and qualifying exam marks in an equal ratio of 50:50. The vacant seats if any will be filled on the basis of JEE Main Paper-2 score or on the basis of aptitude test in Architecture conducted by university.

GNDEC gears for admission with three new programs.

A post graduate programs, M.Tech in Mechanical Engg with various specializations including thermal, design, manufacturing and industrial has been granted by AICTE with 30 seats. Another M.Tech program in Information Technology with three major specializations, Data analysis, Image processing and data mining has also been granted by AICTE with 30 seats from the current session. The admission shall be held through IKG PTU counseling followed by direct admission in the college itself.
Likewise post graduate courses with latest specializations were also required for developing manpower for taking teaching and research assignments in the diversified fields of mechanical Engg and Information technology. The post graduate programs in every Engg brach is being already offered by GNDEC since long. He further added that the recently granted MHRD project, TEQIP shall go in long way to improve the quality and level of these programs
