LPU students grabbed top 11 medals till now at Khelo India University Games-2023

With a massive 165 students’ contingent, Lovely Professional University (LPU) is participating in 14 different games at ‘Khelo India University Games-2023’ to last till 3rd June 2023. Till now, LPU students have won top 11 medals. LPU teams have won 2 Gold in Greco Roman Wrestling & Rowing; 6 Silver in Basketball, Wrestling, Shooting, Rowing; and 3 Bronze medals in Men's Rugby & Athletics, so far.

Jalandhar, June 1, 2023: With a massive 165 students’ contingent, Lovely Professional University (LPU) is participating in 14 different games at ‘Khelo India University Games-2023’ to last till 3rd June 2023. Till now, LPU students have won top 11 medals. LPU teams have won 2 Gold in Greco Roman Wrestling & Rowing; 6 Silver in Basketball, Wrestling, Shooting, Rowing; and 3 Bronze medals in Men's Rugby & Athletics, so far.


Many other sportsmen and women of LPU are going to stockpile a lot of medals at the ten day multi-sport event. The games are being held in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh at different venues. In its very first participation, LPU’s Rugby team won one of the top medals at the games held in Lucknow (UP). LPU contingent had secured the 2nd Spot with a score of 94.0 at Khelo India University Games 2022, last year.


Congratulating the winning teams of the university, LPU Pro-Chancellor Rashmi Mittal encouraged other team members as well to continue with the games by keeping the winning spirit alive. She also anticipated a glorious win by reaching on one of the top pedestals of the winners’ podium.


This third edition of the KIUG is featuring around 4,000 athletes from 205 Universities from across the country. All athletes are to vie for medals in 21 sports. Various other events are being held in Varanasi, Greater Noida and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh; whereas, shooting events are in Delhi. With opening held at Lucknow on May 25, the closing ceremony will be held in Varanasi on 3rd June.


KIUG is part of the Indian government’s Khelo India initiative, which is focused towards promoting grassroots sports and identifying young talents from all across the country. It is an inter-university meet where athletes representing different institutes vie for top 913 medals in 21 different sports.


At the end of the event, the university with the most number of gold medals will be declared the champions on June 3, 2023. LPU has commenced its journey on the same lines. In fact, LPU has already registered glorious wins at its first two editions.
