LPU Engineering Students adjudged as Top Future Space Innovators by ISRO in National Competition

The two-day 'IN-SPACe CANSAT India Student Competition' concluded in Ahmedabad, with the team "VIHANGA" from Lovely Professional University (LPU) being declared the top winners by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), in this first of its kind esteemed national event. Outshining 28 teams from across the country, the seven exceptional engineering students from LPU displayed their ingenuity by designing, developing, and launching CAN-sized satellites.

Jalandhar, April 22, 2024: The two-day 'IN-SPACe CANSAT India Student Competition' concluded in Ahmedabad, with the team "VIHANGA" from Lovely Professional University (LPU) being declared the top winners by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), in this first of its kind esteemed national event. Outshining 28 teams from across the country, the seven exceptional engineering students from LPU displayed their ingenuity by designing, developing, and launching CAN-sized satellites.

The IN-SPACe CANSAT India Student Competition, organized for the first time by the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) and the Astronautical Society of India (ASI), ISRO, aimed to nurture and empower future space innovators. This event provided a platform for students to explore various aspects of satellite building, and fostered a culture of innovation & scientific exploration in India.

Speaking at the event, Chairman ISRO, Dr. S. Somanath emphasized the significance of the CANSAT competition in bolstering India's commitment to innovation and scientific exploration. He praised the efforts of LPU's team and acknowledged its remarkable achievement. Dr. Somanath also recognized LPU's commitment to space exploration, citing the university's aerospace program and state-of-the-art satellite lab as pivotal contributors to India's space technology advancements.

In a pioneering development, the Chairman of InSpace, Dr. Pawan Goenka informed attendees that the ASI now grants membership to the private sector and academia, furthering their involvement in astronautics development. This move signifies a collaborative approach in harnessing the potential of various stakeholders, ultimately propelling India's space endeavours to new heights.

The Founder Chancellor of LPU & distinguished Rajya Sabha Member Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal expressed his heartfelt congratulations to LPU’s outstanding engineering students. Dr. Mittal reaffirmed LPU's commitment to space exploration, and highlighted the university's Centre for Space Research facility comprising the state-of-the-art ground station and satellite integration lab for different payload designs built by LPU as vital contributors to India's space technology advancements.

With their remarkable victory in the IN-SPACe CANSAT India Student Competition, LPU's "VIHANGA" team has proved their mettle as the frontrunners of future space innovation. This triumph not only showcases their exceptional engineering prowess but also solidifies LPU's reputation as a leading institution in the field of space exploration.

LPU’s winning-students team included seven students of Aerospace Engineering and CSE programs-Chaitnya Khanna, Vinay Reddy, Rishik Awasthi, Riddhi Malhotra, Adiyanthi, Mallikarjun and Ashutosh-under the mentorship of Prof Dr Sumit Kumar, Centre for Space Research at LPU.
