Jalandhar; September 27, 2025: The School of Hotel Management & Tourism (SOHMT) at Lovely Professional University (LPU) celebrated World Tourism Day 2025 with the novel vision. The event was based on the United Nations theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation,” focusing on how tourism can help the planet and support local communities.

The day was a wonderful convergence of creative competitions and activities. It started with a Sustainability-Themed Reels Challenge, where students made short videos on responsible travel. It was followed by a rich lineup of cultural performances representing diverse Indian traditions. Dance forms such as Punjabi Gidda, Manipuri, Gujarati folk, and Ravindra Nritya captured the spirit of unity in diversity. Musical performances and a travel-themed stand-up act added creative flair to the event.

One of the most captivating segments of the day was the fashion show, where students represented the traditional attire and aesthetics of Bhutan, African regions, and multiple Indian states including Kerala, Telangana, Manipur, and Punjab. The showcase emphasized how fashion can serve as a medium of cultural storytelling and responsible representation.

Inspiring the participants, Col. Dr. Rashmi Mittal, Pro-Chancellor of LPU, stated, “Tourism is not just an industry; it is a transformative force for global good. At LPU, our mission is to equip the next generation of hospitality leaders with the vision and skills to drive this change. The vision is to cultivate a deep-seated respect for cultural diversity, environmental stewardship, and sustainable community partnerships, ensuring that tourism becomes a cornerstone of a more equitable and resilient future.”

The event sustained active participation through multiple competitions such as the Talent Hunt, Sustainability Quiz, Essay Writing, and Treasure Hunt, encouraging innovation and critical awareness. The Zero Waste Challenge drew special attention as participants redesigned common materials into functional items like travel accessories and handcrafted decor. A culinary segment featuring traditional dishes from across India added depth by showcasing the role of food in preserving cultural identity and promoting heritage tourism.

With EduRevolution initiative, LPU continues to create platforms where learning goes beyond the classroom, encouraging students to blend global awareness with local action and preparing them to shape the future of responsible tourism.LPU and the School of Hotel Management & Tourism are open to collaborative opportunities that drive the data-driven future of hospitality and sustainable tourism.
