Jalandhar; July 21, 2025: In a heartfelt tribute to the valour and sacrifice of the Armed Forces, Lovely Professional University (LPU), has taken a significant step forward with the ‘Rakshak Samman Anudan’, a transformative education initiative for Indian Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces, or Allied Organizations. The announcement was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, and Air Vice Marshal Harjit S Sidana, VSM, Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Education), Indian Air Force.
The MoU paves the way for up to 100% scholarships for Indian Air Forces personnel be it serving, retired, or martyred as well as their dependents. These scholarships cover a wide array of disciplines including Engineering, Management, Law, Humanities, and can be utilised across both online and regular classroom-based programs. This initiative is not just an educational opportunity, it is a gesture of deep gratitude.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal said, ‘Our Armed Forces are the pride of our nation. Through Rakshak Samman Anudan’, we aim to honour their selfless service with what we know best and that is Education. This is our humble effort to empower their families, create a lasting impact, and contribute to India’s journey of growth. As an MP and as an educationist, I see this as my national duty.’
Air Vice Marshal Harjit S Sidana who called the collaboration a milestone moment added, ‘This partnership marks the beginning of a new chapter in promoting excellence through the integration of academic expertise with military experience. The IAF, while rooted in discipline, precision, and operational readiness, recognizes the growing importance of continuous learning, innovation, and intellectual collaboration. In today’s rapidly evolving strategic and technological landscape, such collaborations are not just beneficial but equally essential. I am confident that this partnership with LPU shall surely augment capacity-building efforts of the IAF. I am sure that this MoU will not just be a document of intent, but a roadmap of impactful action and shared achievement.’
The Rakshak Samman Anudan builds upon earlier MoUs signed with the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard in April this year creating a comprehensive and systemic education platform for India’s defence forces. This scholarship initiative also complements LPU’s existing ‘Jai Jawan Scheme’, launched after Operation Sindoor which offers 100% tuition waivers to serving personnel of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Paramilitary Forces (CRPF, BSF, ITBP, SSB) enrolling in LPU Online programs.
With these initiatives, LPU, under the leadership of Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal has emerged as a leading institution supporting the aspirations of India’s armed forces not just in words, but through meaningful action.
