Rohtak, October 8, 2026: “Eyes are a priceless gift from God and deserve the utmost care,” said Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences (UHSR) Vice-Chancellor Dr HK Aggarwal while leading a World Sight Day awareness campaign at the Atal Regional Institute of Ophthalmology (ARIO) here today.

Addressing students and faculty, Dr Aggarwal said nearly 80 percent of blindness worldwide could be prevented through timely screening and treatment. He highlighted diabetic retinopathy, childhood squint and cataract as major causes of avoidable vision loss.

The Vice Chancellor said PGIMS was committed not only to treating eye ailments but also to making Haryana free from avoidable blindness. “Eye care must reach every village,” he said, adding that the institute was conducting regular outreach camps and awareness programmes. He urged youngsters to undergo an eye examination at least once a year.

A rally involving MBBS, BPT, BSc Optometry and postgraduate students was taken out from the New OPD complex. Students raised slogans such as “Take care of your eyes, let your vision last for years”, spreading the message of eye health across the hospital campus.

A large rangoli created by students in the New OPD lobby also attracted patients and attendants.

ARIO faculty members conducted talks on prevention of corneal blindness, early detection of glaucoma, childhood myopia and amblyopia, and prevention of diabetic retinopathy.

Dean Academic Affairs Dr MG Vashishth, Dean Dr Ashok Chauhan, Medical Superintendent Dr Sudhir Atri, ARIO Head Dr RS Chauhan and Incharge PR Dr Manjunath B.C. were among those present.

Poster contest winners
In the PG category, Dr Manisha won the first prize, followed by Dr Himanshu and Dr Kareena. In the BSc Optometry category, Bharti stood first, Anshu second, while Sneha and Mohit jointly secured the third position. VC Dr Aggarwal presented prizes to the winners and appreciated their creativity.
