Amritsar: Livasa Hospital Amritsar on Friday introduced a revolutionary ‘WALK3’ technique in joint replacement which ensures surgical precision and patient fast recovery.
Addressing a press conference, Dr. Sukhpal Singh Mann senior consultant ortho and joint replacement who is a globally trained surgeon from Germany and Australia, with over ten years of clinical expertise and more than 2000 successful joint replacements, said that this technique uses augmented reality (AR) through lightweight smart glasses that project real-time 3D guidance directly onto the patient’s anatomy during joint replacement surgery.
This allows surgeons to achieve highly precise bone alignment and implant placement without bulky navigation equipment or preoperative CT scans, he elaborated.
Dr. Aditya Bhardwaj, senior consultant ortho and joint replacement and a globally trained orthopaedic surgeon with advanced fellowships across Australia, Germany, and the UK, detailed how augmented reality has elevated consistency and accuracy across complex procedures.
He also explained that the AR system displays virtual reference guides in the surgeon’s field of view, enabling a streamlined, intuitive, surgeon-controlled workflow that supports smaller incisions, faster rehabilitation, reduced postoperative discomfort, and enhanced surgical outcomes.
Talking about the benefits of the technique , Dr. Mann said that the patients start walking within 3 hours of surgery, this is completely stitch-less, scarless surgery in which natural ligaments and bones of the patient are preserved and there is very small amount of blood loss.
Dr. Bhardwaj Both shared recent patient cases where this technique proved invaluable, particularly in situations involving deformities, complex trauma, or prior surgical challenges. They noted the technology’s ability to deliver millimetre-level accuracy, significantly improving patient recovery trajectories.
Divya Prashant Bajaj, Facility Director – Livasa Hospital Amritsar said,“We continuously invest in technologies that elevate precision and patient comfort. The introduction of the latest technologies at Livasa Amritsar is already making a remarkable difference in how joint replacement surgeries are performed and experienced.”
