Drivers are unhappy with other players in the transportation system and hence are moving to Lithium for benefits
Bangalore: Lithium Urban Technologies, India’s first all-electric mobility solution, is looking to hire 500 drivers by the end of this year in Bangalore, in order to cater to growing demand for electric vehicles by corporates. Currently, corporates are benefitting from Lithium’s 500 drivers working in Bangalore. In order to increase the fleet of their air-conditioned, automatic, all-electric vehicles, they aim to hire capable and reliable drivers who can ensure the safety of the passengers.
Leading the ‘Electric Vehicle Capital’ of the country by its presence throughout Bengaluru, Lithium recognizes the hard work put in by drivers and strives to make coming to work enjoyable. The drivers at Lithium earn upwards Rs. 22,500 and can increase depending on their capabilities. They get an additional referral and attendance bonus. Additionally, drivers are provided with health insurance and partial/full education scholarship for the girl child. The fixed working hours along with the incentive to lead a team adds to the benefits of working at Lithium.

The applicants will have to undergo screening test which includes two levels of background check -digital footprint and police verification.
The criteria for hiring would be based on the experience and background along with references. The drivers undergo a rigorous training programme, consisting of a practical training, and a theory class. Training includes chauffeur training, defensive driving, crisis management and other requirements. A driving test is held on the final day of the training programme.
While Uber and Ola began their operations with high incentives to the drivers, the facilities were pulled back within six months. As a result, the pressure of completing the fixed number of rides, strenuous working hours and negligible benefits has caused an unrest within the driver community.
On the other hand, Lithium has a Driver Happiness Index to measure the satisfaction with an average rating of 4.7 of 5. Currently, employed drivers at Lithium have said that working at Lithium has given them a sense of security and a feeling of satisfaction. The families of the drivers are content too, as they are able to spend quality time. Their fixed working hours enhances their work life and family life, creating a work-life balance, just as any other white collar job employee.
Praveen Salins, Operation Head, Lithium Urban Technologies said, “We do not think of our drivers as employees but as partners. We are reaching out to others to come be our partners and help us grow together. An added advantage is that drivers are also given the opportunity to become supervisors depending on their capability. They will get to manage about 10 people under them. We also hold annual meet with our partners during Saarathiyothsava, where we award our drivers for the excellent work that they do.”
Sanjay Krishnan, Founder/CEO, Lithium Urban Technologies said, “There is a growing demand for electric vehicles in India with a greater number of corporates seeking electric mobility. Lithium’s growth has been at par with an F.A.M.E scheme and we have received great support from the government and key decision makers on our model.”
