The Human Rights Volunteers Cell for Paralegal Services, the Legal Aid Clinic of Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Punjab University in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority Chandigarh organised a legal awareness drive at Student Centre, Punjab University on 14 March 2024.

Chandigarh, March 14, 2024: The Human Rights Volunteers Cell for Paralegal Services, the Legal Aid Clinic of Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Punjab University in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority Chandigarh organised a legal awareness drive at Student Centre, Punjab University on Thursday. 

The dissemination of legal literature and information regarding exercise of rights of marginalised, indigent, women and children within government established social schemes was appropriately made available and accessible by the student para-legal volunteers. The legal aid clinic at Centre for Human Rights and Duties is one of the 3 operative officially run legal aid clinics on campus (the others are functional at the 3 year Department of Laws and 5 year law department).It was flagged off by Navjeet Klair, Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary, District legal Services Authority, Chandigarh and Prof. Namita Gupta, Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Faculty in-charge and Director Public Relations, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The drive was led by Dr. Kanika Sharma, Guest Faculty, Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Dr. Astha Arora, District appointed para legal worker, Gurdeep, Senior Research Fellow along with para legal volunteers Shiv and Vikas. It transpired into a successful sensitisation legal camp with overwhelming response at the Student Centre with data being catalogued by the Masters degree students at Centre for Human Rights and Duties. 

The students shared the regular functioning of the clinic at the Centre, scheduled weekly visit every Thursday from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Punjab University which will be regularly visitation and case handling by Dr. Astha Arora.
