Lecture at MDU on ‘Blood, Bugs, and Biology: Decoding the Aging Axis’
Chronic inflammation may accelerate aging. Similarly, the condition of the gut microbiome may also be related to aging. As such, microbiomes can be utilized to improve immunotherapy to combat adverse health conditions. This was stated by eminent scientist Dr. Amit Grover in his illuminating lecture on the topic- "Blood, Bugs and Biology: Decoding the Aging Axis" today organized under the aegis of Dept. of Biochemistry of MDU.

This was stated by eminent scientist Dr. Amit Grover in his illuminating lecture on the topic- "Blood, Bugs and Biology: Decoding the Aging Axis" today organized under the aegis of Dept. of Biochemistry of MDU.
Dr. Amit Grover, Principal Scientist (Oncology Research), AstraZeneca (U.K.) threw light on inflammaging, impact on gut microbiome and cancer immunology. He said that there is a decline in adaptive immunity during aging. Based upon his research, he suggested that there are increased incidents of myeloid malignancies with aging.
Compared to young people, older people have more myeloid cells than lymphoid cells which affect immunity. He said that there is alteration in microbial diversity during aging. He opined that immunotherapy may help in T-cell activation which helps in combating malignancies. He said that genetic alteration or mutation is also an important factor for health complications occurring during aging.
Head, Department of Biochemistry Prof N.S. Chauhan introduced the invited speaker, and threw light on the background of the topic. He expressed the vote of thanks too. Dr. Amit Grover answered the questions of faculty members and the participants during the interactive session. Professors Vijay Kumar, Ritu Pasrija, Sandeep Singh, Rashmi Bhardwaj, Sarvjeet Singh Gill, Sapna Sharma, and Naveen Kumar, along with Director of Public Relations Sunit Mukherjee, research scholars, and students, were present on this occasion.
