Chandigarh, March 31, 2026: BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh expressed deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab, stating that under the Aam Aadmi Party government, an atmosphere of anarchy has taken hold in the state. Chugh said that the vandalisation of the statue of Constitution maker Babasaheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar in Nurpur Jattan of Hoshiarpur is extremely unfortunate and condemnable, reflecting the government’s failure to even safeguard the dignity of great national icons.
Chugh said this is not an isolated incident, but part of a continuing pattern of such events in recent times, clearly indicating that the government has completely failed to maintain law and order. He added that when even the Constitution and its architect are not respected, it points to a serious breakdown of governance.
Referring to the recent blast outside the Bhindi Saidan police station in Amritsar, Chugh said the incident is deeply alarming. He noted that a series of attacks targeting police establishments over the past year and a half shows that criminals are emboldened while the government remains completely inactive.
Chugh said if police stations themselves are not secure, how can ordinary citizens feel safe. He alleged that gangsters, drug mafias, and anti-social elements are operating without fear, while the government has reduced itself to a silent spectator. He demanded accountability from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, stating that ensuring public safety is the foremost responsibility of any government.
Chugh also welcomed the Centre’s decision to arrange 860 special trains for the swift lifting of wheat from Punjab mandis. He said that the movement of over 2.2 million metric tonnes of wheat is a major and commendable step in the interest of farmers and will significantly ease the storage crisis.
Chugh said that while the Prime Minister Modi-led central government is actively working in the interest of farmers, the negligence of the state government continues to be exposed. He questioned why chaos is witnessed every year during the procurement season and why the Mann government fails to ensure timely arrangements. Chugh added that the people and farmers of Punjab now need real action on the ground, not mere announcements.
