Chandigarh, September 14, 2022: A 35 year man suffering from a large intestine cancer has been treated successfully at Ivy Hospital, Mohali recently.

Giving details, Dr. Vijay Bansal, head onco surgery and Dr. Hemkant Verma, senior consultant onco-surgery at Ivy Hospital said that the patient had complaints of blood in stools and abdominal discomfort. On complete evaluation he was found to have cancer in 3 different parts of the large intestine with other polyps in the other part of the large intestine.

Such cases with multifocal cancer in the intestine are not very common and need expert management. This case was discussed in the tumor board and finally decided for surgery, said Dr. Vijay Bansal.

The case was operated by a laparoscopic approach which is also called minimal invasive approach, which required very small 5 holes on the patient's belly. The whole procedure was done in 4 hours with very minimal blood loss and without any complication. The patient recovered well after surgery and he was able to move around from the very next day of surgery without any pain.

Dr. Vijay Bansal informed that keyhole surgeries help in faster recovery, less pain after surgery, early discharge from hospital, early resumption of daily activities and very small scar on skin.
