Labour Day ‘Gift’ of Inflation: Randhawa Slams LPG Price Increase
Former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, alleged that on Labour Day, the central government has given a “gift” of inflation.
Chandigarh, May 1, 2026: Former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, alleged that on Labour Day, the central government has given a “gift” of inflation. At a time when the entire country is paying tribute to the contribution of the working class, the Centre has increased LPG cylinder prices, delivering yet another blow of inflation to the common people, which is extremely unfortunate. This move will further increase the hardships of the general public, especially the labour class.
Randhawa stated that it is deeply concerning that on one hand, there is talk of respect and rights for workers on Labour Day, while on the other, the burden of inflation on ordinary families continues to grow. He said that the true tribute on Labour Day would be to provide relief from rising inflation and strengthen the purchasing power of the people.
He added that across Punjab and the entire country, the labour class—working tirelessly in fields, factories, construction sites, and roadside eateries—is already under economic pressure. In such a situation, the increased price of LPG cylinders directly impacts their daily lives and the cost of food.
He particularly noted that workers in Punjab often rely on affordable meals at roadside eateries, but rising inflation is now making even these meals expensive. This situation is a matter of serious concern, and the government should intervene immediately.
Randhawa urged the central government to take concrete and effective measures to control inflation and provide real relief to workers and the poor, rather than making symbolic announcements. He said that the Congress party has consistently opposed such decisions of the central government and demands that inflation be brought under control.
