KVK, Majra, SAS Nagar organises five days course on 'Scientific approach to dairy farming'

Ludhiana, March 30, 2017: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Majra, SAS Nagar (Mohali) of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, in its efforts to provide the latest technical knowhow to the farmers and farm women for development of self-entrepreneurship in agriculture and livestock sector with integrated approach organized a five days training course on ‘Scientific approach to dairy farming’ at village Dhakoran Kalan, Block Majri, from March 20 to 27. Fourty farmers belonging to scheduled castes registered in the course under RKVY, of which 38 were women. Dr.Randhir Singh, course-coordinator, provided information on control and treatment of various diseases of dairy animals and stressed on adaptation of dairy farming on scientific lines. A hands-on demonstration on handling, and physical examination of dairy animal was also shared with the farmers. Dr. Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director (Training), KVK, Majra put a brief note on mandate and upcoming activities of KVK for farmers. He delivered lectures on prospects of dairy farming in Punjab and provided information about various cattle breeds and housing. Dr. Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor Home Science delivered lectures on value addition of milk whereas, Dr. Vikas Phulia provided interesting inputs on how to integrate dairy with fish farming.
Farmers were also taken on exposure visit to Pashu Palan Mela, GADVASU, Ludhiana. The course concluded with distribution of certificates, literature and other dairy related inputs free of cost to the participants by scientists’ team of Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
