Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur and Department of Climate Change & Agricultural Meteorology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Garhshankar organized a farmer training cum awareness camp at Kheti Bhavan, Garhshankar under the scheme AICRP on Agricultural Meteorology.

Ludhiana, May 4, 2022: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur and Department of Climate Change & Agricultural Meteorology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Garhshankar organized a farmer training cum awareness camp at Kheti Bhavan, Garhshankar under the scheme AICRP on Agricultural Meteorology.

Hon’ble Sh. Jai Krishan Singh Rouri, Member of Legislative Assembly, Garhshankar was the chief guest on this occasion.

At the outset, Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Deputy Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur welcomed the chief guest, other dignitaries and farmers/farmwomen present during this camp. He discussed in detail about direct seeding of paddy (DSR) and also shed light on the cultivation of less water consuming, alternate kharif crops like maize, ashgourd, cucumber, pumpkin, groundnut and sesamum. Dr. Bons also discussed other water conservation practices with the farmers.

In his presidential remarks, Sh. Jai Krishan Singh Rouri, MLA, Garhshankar gave a clarion call to the farmers and farmwomen for extending full support to the noble endeavor of saving of water. He exhorted the farmers to adopt direct seeding of paddy for saving irrigation water and also highlighted the cultivation of less water consuming kharif crops which were sown primarily in kandi and beet areas of district Hoshiarpur. Sh. Rouri also assured full support of Govt. of Punjab for implementation of farmer welfare schemes and asked the farmers to keep in regular touch with Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare for updating of latest agricultural techniques and knowledge.

Dr. Subhash Chander, Agricultural Officer, Garhshankar gave a brief overview of the different schemes of the department for the welfare of the farmers. He also assured full support in the campaign for saving of water.

On this occasion various technical lectures were delivered by experts from PAU, Ludhiana and KVK Hoshiarpur.

Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Principal Scientist (Agrometeorology), Department of Climate Change & Agricultural Meteorology, PAU, Ludhiana shared the impact of climate change on cropping systems and also asked the farmers to follow the weather advisories for scheduling of different farm operations.

Dr. Sandeep Singh Sandhu, Principal Agronomist, Department of Climate Change & Agricultural Meteorology, PAU, Ludhiana discussed in detail the improved cultivation practices for paddy and maize including integrated weed and nutrient management.

Dr. Kanwarpal Singh, Assistant Professor (Animal Science), KVK Hoshiarpur, addressed the farmers regarding animal nutrition and summer management of dairy animals.

In the end, progressive SC dairy farmers were provided cattle feed by Sh. Jai Krishan Singh Rouri, MLA, Garhshankar.
