Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) PG Department of Mathematics students in an another major achievement have bagged Second Prize under Category-II in Astronomical Instrument Competition organized by IKS, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Jalandhar, March 24, 2026: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) PG Department of Mathematics students in an another major achievement have bagged Second Prize under Category-II in Astronomical Instrument Competition organized by IKS, Ministry of Education, Government of India. This remarkable achievement was brought by the students namely— Mehak (M.Sc. Mathematics (FYIP) Sem II), Gagandeep Kaur (M.Sc. Mathematics (FYIP) Sem IV), and Komal (M.Sc. Mathematics (FYIP) Sem IV). The department prepared miniature model of traditional astronomical instruments including:
•    Samrat Yantra -The largest sundial
•    Ram Yantra – Altitude measurement
•    Jai Prakash Yantra – Celestial positioning
•    Digamsa Yantra – Azimuth direction
•    Dakshinottar Bhitti Yantra – Meridian altitude 
•    Nadi Valaya Yantra – Time determination of Astronomical observatory at Jantar Mantar in Jaipur
Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the students and faculty members on this remarkable national-level achievement and appreciated their sincere efforts in promoting Indian Knowledge System and India’s rich scientific and mathematical heritage. She averred that this accomplishment is yet another milestone for the PG Department of Mathematics, reflecting KMV’s continuous commitment to academic excellence, innovation and the preservation of Bharatiya Gyan Parampara. 
It is pertinent to mention that these instruments were prepared by the students under the guidance of Anand Prabha, Head, PG Department of Mathematics, with the valuable support and guidance of faculty members Vanshi, Akshdeep Kaur, Tanvi and Navdeep.
