Jalandhar, September 19, 2026: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) Department of Biotechnology, celebrated International Microorganisms Day 2026 with an innovative and engaging programme.
The celebration featured a Cartoon Drawing Competition and Agar Art Activity, providing the students with an opportunity to integrate scientific knowledge, biotechnology, creativity, and innovation. Through cartoons and visual storytelling, students creatively highlighted the beneficial applications of microorganisms in healthcare, pharmaceutical biotechnology, industrial biotechnology, food biotechnology, agricultural biotechnology, and environmental biotechnology. The Agar Art Activity provided students with hands-on exposure to microbial growth while transforming a basic microbiological technique into an innovative form of scientific and artistic expression. The activity helped students understand that microorganisms are not merely associated with disease but are important biological resources that can be harnessed through biotechnology for developing useful products, processes, and sustainable solutions. The programme also highlighted the immense potential of microbial biotechnology in the production of antibiotics, enzymes, fermented foods, biofertilizers, biocontrol agents, biofuels, bioproducts, and environmentally sustainable technologies.
Director Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi appreciated the efforts of the Department of Biotechnology and encouraged students to cultivate scientific curiosity, creativity, and an innovation-oriented mindset. She highlighted the importance of providing students with opportunities for experiential learning and exposure to emerging areas of biotechnology.
