KMV organises national webinar on combating fake news during covid-19

Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organised a National Webinar on Combating Fake News During COVID-19. The webinar was organised by the Post Graduate Department of Journalism & Mass Communication.


Mr Munish Devgan, Senior Executive Producer & Digital Content Producer, AajTak was the resource person for the webinar. During the webinar, Mr Devgan explained the concept of Fake News to the participants  and also talked about as to how one can identify the fake news and thus, can prevent it from spreading. He informed all the present about the initiatives taken by the Government of India to stop the practice of fake news as there is a separate helpline provided by the government for the reporting of fake news. He also touched upon the working style of media houses of the country and clearly stated that there is a wrong perception in the minds of the people about media as he opined that media houses are very much independent and doesn’t tend to have any inclination towards any political ideology. 

Principal Prof Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that media holds a much responsible position in any developed society as it is considered to be the fourth pillar of democracy. She further maintained that the practice of fake news has been on increase these days and it further creates a misunderstanding in the society as people sometimes tend to believe in unauthentic information, as a result, creating the worst situations in the country. 

Principal lauded the efforts of Dr Madhumeet, Dean, PG Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, Mrs Manpreet Kaur, Mr Sehajpal Singh & Mr Sandeep Singh for their brilliant efforts in organising this webinar. Mr Sehajpal Singh was the moderator for the webinar.
