KMV celebrates international dance day 

Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya celebrated International Dance Day in collaboration with SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth), a movement which promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage by promoting Indian classical music, classical dance, folk music, yoga, meditation, crafts and other aspects of Indian culture. 
The celebrations were organised to pay a rich tribute to Pt. Rajan Mishra. During the celebrations, a kathak recital and interactive session with Padamshree Shovana Narayan, a prolific kathak dancer was also organised. Dr Sushma  Chawla, Vice President, KMV Managing Committee was the chief guest during the occasion. Ms Anuradha Sondhi, Dr Sushma Chopra & General Balwinder also graced the occasion. Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi welcomed the esteemed guests to the event. In her welcoming address, Prof Dwivedi averred that on this international dance day the young generation of our country should strive to develop the finer aspects of life in order to develop balance in all spheres of life. She further maintained that today’s event is a form of prayer for all the suffering that is happening all over the world during the current times. Prof. Dwivedi averred that the art form like dance motivate us all to look within us, to be in harmony with each other and with nature in order to feel the sensitivity of human nature. Shovana Narayan in her address said that KMV being a premier institution of India always takes a lot of initiatives in order to promote Indian culture and traditions among the society. She said that dance is a form of yoga as dance is a balance of mental, physical and spiritual aspect of one’s life. She said that this celebration is a reminder to us that dance and music is not merely entertainment, but it also has many deeper purposes in life. She explained very eloquently that dance is a combination of art and science both as along with aesthetics, dance also has laws of science to it. A video of Shovana Narayana explaining the intricacies of Kathak was also showcased during the event. 
During the culmination of the event, question and answer session was also organised in which many participants asked their queries from Shovana Narayana. Ms Kunda Mahurkar, National Chairperson, SPIC MACAY extended Vote of Thanks to all the guests and the participants. Ms Kamakshi and Ms Yukta were the moderators for the whole event. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of Dr Poonam Sharma, Head, PG Department of Performing Arts, Dr Pardeep Arora and Dr Madhumeet, Head, PG Department of English for successfully organising the event.
