KMV bestowed with CURIE grant by Department of Science and Technology, GoI

Jalandhar, March 21, 2022: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) had added one more feather to its golden cap. KMV has been bestowed with the prestigious ‘CURIE’ grant by Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. In order to acquaint everyone with this outstanding achievement, KMV organized a Press Conference. 

Throwing more light on this singular achievement of KMV during the press conference, Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi addressing the whole media fraternity averred that KMV has become the first & only college from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar to be bestowed with the CURIE grant. KMV has also become one of  the PG colleges out of all the eminent colleges of India to be awarded with this prestigious grant. 

She further maintained that this grant of 75 lacs has been awarded to KMV due to its excellent performance in the teaching and learning of the Sciences. Many new equipments for world class infrastructure will be purchased under this opportunity & the scheme will also provide optimal infrastructure facilities for post-graduate teaching and research, such as, modernization of laboratories, teaching and research, acquisition of essential equipment, up-gradation of existing facilities, networking & computational facilities including software & databases, scientific books, maintenance & refurbishing of existing and new facilities etc. Under this grant, KMV will get enhanced funding to improve the skills of teachers by organizing faculty training programmes, improved curriculum and emphasis on practical training of the students by providing access to specialized infrastructure and consumables. It is pertinent to mention here that KMV is the only college in the region to get 1.10 crore grant under FIST (Phase II) and Star College Status by Government of India with grants for teaching learning facilities. These grants are given on the basis of excellence in student development, teaching standards and performance of the science departments. It is worth noting that KMV is the only college of Punjab with the Star College status, FIST grants and now CURIE grant award. This is the reason why KMV science departments have excellent infrastructure & student output. Prof. Dwivedi adumbrated that KMV was among the 19 institutions across the nation to be conferred with the status of Heritage Institution in 2015, followed by the status of  College with Potential for Excellence. Moreover, KMV is also the first College of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar to be awarded Kaushal Kendra- Skill Development Centre by the Government of India. The most recent achievement which is the award of Autonomous status has made KMV the first women college of Punjab to be bestowed with this status. 

Principal congratulated the faculty members of science faculty for this outstanding achievement & appreciate the hard work which is constantly put in by faculty members and students of KMV. She emphasized on the fact that enhanced grants of the UGC under the CURIE grant will enable KMV students to have more excellence in their learning by exposure to the best resources and opportunities. On this occasion, a celebration was also organized in the college auditorium which all the faculty members of KMV participated and celebrated the glorious success of KMV.
