Kila Raipur, January 30, 2015: Hockey, our National sport kick started on a cold and sunny morning, even as people started populating the stadium.

Shanranjit Singh Dhillon, PWD Minister, Punjab was the Chief Guest and showed great interest in the sports activities. He reiterated the commitment to take the message of the festival places and provide better infrastructure to help people in Kila Raipur and around enjoy the Festival at a larger scale.

Horse racing heats, filled up the audience with excitement as atop strong and beautiful horses were jockeys, who would be at par with the best there is to see. Riding in 3’s the heats saw the riders screaming and encouraging their horses to gallop towards the finish line. The dust of clouds showcased the speeds and the skill of the Horses and the riders. More excitement is on the offing tomorrow.

The MRF Muscleman Competition had many contestants attempting to lift the MRF tyre on display, to get a shot at winning lucrative prizes. As title sponsors MRF is committed to making their presence felt in the area and Kila Raipur Sports festival is perfect platform for them.

In the under 19 - 100 meter dash (Boys) The fastest boy  was Narendra Singh of Patiala, who got the better of Lakhvinder Singh of Ludhiana and Anit of Sangrur.

Manpreet Kaur from Jalandhar beat Virpal Kaur of Bhatinda and Baljit Kaur of Amritsar. In the Girls under 19 - 100 meter dash, which was a tough battle, Narendra Singh again was the best of the lot in 400 meter race for the Under 19 boys, beating Sabarmeet Singh and Nikhil Arora. All three podium finishers being from Patiala.

Virpal Kaur and Baljit Kaur finished 1st and 3rd in the 400 meter under 19 girls race, after the 100 meter podium finish. The second spot was bagged by Sandeep Kaur from Punjab University.

In 200 meter Girls Under 19, Virpal Kaur got the better of Sandeep Kaur and Manjeet Kaur and in 200 meter under 19 boys: Narendre Singh from Patiala finished in 22.05 sec ahead of Harpreet Singh Gill, Gurdaspur, 23.22 and Vikas Kumar, Jalandhar: 23.31 sec.

Dog races enthralled the audience with Dogs cared for by their owners were at their best to be ahead of one another.

In Bhagwant Memorial Hockey Gold Cup  Kila Raipur beat Sangrur (2:0) and Amlogh beat Gurdarpur : 5:4  in an exciting match that turned to tie breaker for a result.
