Ludhiana, March 22, 2014: A "Kidney Month" is being organised in "Christian Medical College" in Ludhiana in March. Activities during the month center around improving awareness and early detection of kidney disease particularly with an emphasis on the theme "Stop Kidney Injury"
On March 8 a Kidney Health OPD with Nephrology consultation, Diet counseling and Health education was organised in the Nephrology Department attended by patients of kidney disease and their relatives. Relatives of kidney disease are prone to kidney disease and periodic check-ups and healthy lifestyle go a long way in preventing and treating the disease early..
A street play was performed by Nursing Students of Nursing College was performed to create awareness of Kidney Disease and common causes of kidney disease and their prevention. The play was well attended and appreciated by patients and relatives.
On March 14 a poster designing competition on the theme "Ageing and Kidneys" was performed in keeping with the World Kidney Day theme of 2014.
There were 40 entries for the poster competition and three prize winning entries were selected with Saloni, Tajinder Kaur, Madhuand Maninder Pal Kaur as winners.
A renal quiz was conducted by Dr. Pratish George with 14 teams competing forfive slots for the finals which featured eight rounds of “Kidney Gyan.”The team comprising Dr.Aprajita Singh, Dr. Amrita and Sumi Susan were winners.
On 22nd March a Continuing Medical Education on “Acute Kidney Injury” is being held featuring seven talks by eminent national and international faculty, its epidemiology, diagnosis, prevention and importance of early and effective management. Giving More information Dr. Timothy Rajamanickam, Head of the Nephro, department said “The meeting coincides with the Silver Jubilee of hemodialysis in the Nephrology Department which has pioneered kidney care in Punjab and the Northern India since the 1960’s with many firsts including doing peritoneal dialysis, kidney biopsy, kidney transplantation and super specialty Nephrology training for the first time in Punjab. The meeting invites doctors and nurses to register and improve care for patients with kidney diseases.”
The kidney month will culminate on March 23 with a thanksgiving chapel service for 25 years of kidney care and service of the Nephrology Department in CMC. The Kidney Week campaign was last year selected as one of the best campaigns worldwide by the Global Kidney Academy online forum and it is hoped this year’s activities will help improve awareness and care for kidney diseases
