Bathinda, March 13, 2024: “Kidney health is paramount to overall well-being, and yet, millions of people worldwide suffer from kidney-related ailments. According to the WHO, kidney diseases are responsible for causing a significant burden of illness and premature death globally.”

Dr. Jagatjit Singh, nephrologist at Max Hospital Bathinda said that kidney diseases can arise from various factors, including diabetes, hypertension, genetic predisposition, infections, and certain medications.

Lifestyle choices such as a high-salt diet, inadequate water intake, and smoking can also contribute to kidney problems. Recognizing these factors is crucial for preventing and managing kidney diseases effectively, he opined.

Dr. Singh further informed that adequate water intake helps flush out toxins and maintains kidney function.

“Opt for a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Limit salt intake and avoid processed foods. Engage in regular physical activity to control weight, blood pressure, and reduce the risk of kidney diseases. Regular health check-ups are vital for managing conditions like hypertension and diabetes, which are major contributors to kidney diseases.”

Both smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can harm kidney function. Quitting smoking and moderating alcohol intake contribute to overall kidney health, he maintained.
