Kia India Launched Phase V of Project D.R.O.P. in Association with Cantonment Board Ambala, implemented by Indian Pollution Control Association

Ambala, September 25, 2026: Kia India today announced the expansion of Project D.R.O.P. (Develop Responsible Outlook for Plastic) to Ambala Cantonment, Haryana, in association with IPCA. Implemented by the Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA), the initiative represents a significant step in Kia India’s endeavor to address plastic pollution through sustained awareness, behavioral change and structured waste-collection mechanisms.

The initiative has onboarded 90 locations across Ambala Cantonment, including residential quarters, military units, schools, messes and institutional establishments. This comprehensive network will support the responsible segregation, collection and management of plastic waste while fostering greater environmental consciousness across the cantonment community.

The association with the Cantonment Board Ambala marks an important milestone for Project D.R.O.P., extending the initiative to a defense establishment for the first time. It also brings together the complementary strengths of Kia India, the Cantonment Board Ambala and IPCA to create a credible and potentially replicable model of collaborative environmental action.

Project D.R.O.P. is a flagship CSR initiative of Kia India that seeks to promote responsible plastic-waste management by sensitizing waste generators and establishing an efficient collection ecosystem. With the inclusion of Ambala, the project is now active across 12 Indian cities—Gurugram, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Panchkula, Zirakpur, Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Ambala.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Radha Goyal, Deputy Director, IPCA, said, “The onboarding of 90 locations provides a strong foundation for developing an integrated and sustainable plastic-waste management ecosystem within Ambala Cantonment. Sensitization of community and masses in the cantonment is the prime requirement for ensuring the pathway towards waste management. By combining awareness at source with systematic collection and continued stakeholder participation, we aim to deliver measurable environmental outcomes and encourage enduring behavioral change.” Further, Sh. Ajay Garg added that the project in Ambala Cantonment is first of its kind CSR initiative in cantonment region, which paves a way for replication in other cantonment areas of India as well.

Sharing his perspective, Rahul Anand Sharma, CEO, Cantonment Board Ambala, said, “Project D.R.O.P. is a significant initiative towards strengthening civic administration in the Cantonment through coordinated efforts of the Cantonment Board and defense authorities. With defined responsibilities and measurable outcomes, the project demonstrates an effective institutional approach to improving civic services and the quality of life of residents. The framework may also serve as a reference for similar initiatives in other cantonments and defense establishments.

The event also witnessed the unveiling of D.R.O.P. Community Bins—plastic-collection bins manufactured using recycled plastic—as well as park benches created from recycled material. These installations demonstrate the potential to channel responsibly collected plastic waste back into productive use, reinforcing the principles of resource efficiency and circularity.

A street play performed by professional artists in awareness sessions of the project brought the message of responsible plastic-waste management to life, highlighting the role of individual action and collective participation in addressing plastic pollution. 

The programme concluded with participants taking a shared pledge to contribute towards a plastic-free and environmentally responsible future.
