Kashmir government gives in to lawyers' demand, suspends cops

Jammu, May 8 (IANS) Bowing to pressure from lawyers, the Jammu and Kashmir government Thursday suspended three policemen including two officers for allegedly manhandling a lawyer here.

An order issued by the state home department Thursday said: "In terms of the police rules, pending enquiry into their conduct, the following police personnel - Gandhi Nagar station house officer (SHO) Arun Janwal, assistant sub-inspector, Pritam Chand and selection grade constable Vikram Choudhary - are hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect".

The Jammu Bar Association had launched an agitation against these police personnel for allegedly manhandling a lawyer.

The local lawyers, who called for a Jammu shutdown Tuesday, had demanded suspension of these policemen before an enquiry was ordered into the allegations of manhandling of a lawyer by them.
