Ludhiana, October 3, 2015: The Kamla Lohtia Sanatan Dharam College wore a festive look on the first day of the Panjab University Zonal Youth Festival Ludhiana Zone-A commenced with the theme of ‘Clean, Green & Healthy India’ in the college premises with great pomp and show on Saturday. The beautifully decked up auditorium and college premises was giving an essence of festival all around the place with bubbling and excited faces of the students who were enjoying every bit of the festival on the first day of the Zonal Youth Festival.
It is pertinent to mention that the Kamla Lohtia College is hosting Panjab University Zonal Youth festival fort the third time. The inauguration of the Panjab University Zonal Youth Festival Ludhiana Zone-A was done with the lamp lightening ceremony by the chief guest and guest of honours with the management committee members on the stage.
Around 1,500 students from around 15 colleges participated in the four-day event and the staff is on their toes to make the arrangements in order to make this event a great success to bring fame to their college. The participating colleges are Kamla Lohtia SD College, AS College, Khanna, Arya College, Sri Aurobindo College, Atam Vallabh Jain College, GGN Khalsa College, BSSD College, Sidhsar, Government College, Karamsar, Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, Panjab University Regional Centre, Gurudev College, Malwa College, Bondli, Samrala, Gobindgarh Public College, Alour, SCD Government College.
The morning chief guest on the first day was Rakesh Pandey, MLA, and Ludhiana (North). The guests of honors were Vidya Sagar Rampal, Chairman, Ramal Deying, and Ludhiana. Addressing the students and other dignitaries present on occasion, he stated that Youth Festivals are organized to familiarize ourselves with our culture and heritage and more specifically rich Punjabi culture.  The chief guest in the evening was the member of Parliament, Ravneet Singh Bittu. The guest of the honours was Surinder Dawar, Dinesh Bassi etc. Her appreciated the initiative of Dr Jaura for introducing the heritage items as a means of reviving fading Punjabi tradition. He also stressed the need for inculcating patience and not getting short tempered in addition to good listening skills. He announced a grant of Rs 10 lakhs to the college.  
Welcoming the chief guest, Dr. B.D. Budhiraja, Ex. Dean Colleges, Panjab University, Chandigarh briefed about glorious past of the college and its achievements in various fields.  Welcoming guests, the Principal of college, Dr Shiv Mohan Sharma briefed about event and highlighted significance of the Youth Festival in shaping up and developing creative personality of the youth. He added that holding the event was just possible due to untiring efforts of the staff and managing committee headed by Sunil Aggarwal, Dharampal Jain, Senior Vice President, Sandeep Aggarwal, Vice-President, Brij Mohan Ralhan, Vice-President, R.D. Singhal, General Secretary, Rajesh Kumar, Secretary, Shaman Jindal, Cashier, Sandeep Jain, Manager and executive members.
After that Dr. Nirmal Jaura, Director Youth Welfare, Panjab University, Chandigarh highlighted the purpose and channelizing vibrating and bubbling energy of young minds to right direction. He advised to maintain a balance between studies and co-curricular activities. The souvenir of the college was released by the management, chief guest, and other dignitaries of the college. The main personalities present during the release of souvenir were Rakesh Pandey, MLA, Vidya Sagar Rampal along with the President, Senior Vice-President and Vice President of the college. The other present on occasion were Dr B.D. Budhiraja, Shaman Jindal, Dr. Jhanji, Dr Jaura, Dr Kuldeep and Sandeep Channa. The token of love and honour was presented to the chief guests by the Management Committee members.
The day one of Youth Festival, started with items of Group Shabad,Bhajan, Group Singing Indian, Classical Music Vocal, Geet Ghasal, Folk Song, Ladies traditional songs, Vaar, Kali, Kavishari, Rangoli, Guddiyan Patole Making, Pranda Making, Chhikkoo making, Naala making, Tokri making, Mitti Ke Khidaune, Khiddo Making, Peerhi Making, Rassa Vattna, Ennu making, Embroidery, Phulkari or Bagh, Dasuti & Cross Stich, Pakhi designing knitting, Crochet Work, Mehandi designing, Application, Poem writing, short story writing and essay writing were taken place in college premises.
The topics of Rangoli were Diwali festival, Youth festival and Religious festivals. The topic for short story was motherland for the students of the various colleges. Moreover the Guddian patole refers to the dolls and horses made from cloth in the Punjab Villages, peerhi refers to small stools made with weaving technique in villages. Rassa vattna is the traditional technique of tying ropes by women using their feet and khiddo is small ball of waste clothes which mothers used to weave for children to play. The dignitaries and chief guest in the youth festival appreciated the initiative of the Youth Welfare department for introducing the traditional items in the competition such asGuddiyan Patole Making, Pranda Making, Chhikkoo making, Naala making, Tokri making, Mitti Ke Khidaune, Khiddo Making etc as a means for revival of fading Punjabi culture and heritage.
