Hyderabad, August 17, 2018: UK and Europe’s leading multi brand retailer of sports fashion and outdoor brands, JD Sports Fashion Plc, expands to India. The Group which has over 1500 stores in over 16 countries now opens an offshore technology development(Global In-house Centre) centre here in Hyderabad at High-Tech City, to help the business to offer its global customer a truly multichannel experience by developing, testing and supporting various software applications and systems using cutting edge technologies such as web applications, e commerce applications, digital marketing tools etc
Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, IT, Govt of Telangana was the chief guest and inaugurated the new and spammy office.
Addressing the gathering Jayesh Ranjan said work environment has direct impact on productivity. I am sure this sparky office helps to do some good work
Speaking further, Jayesh added that Hyderabad is the home for five most valued companies in the world. Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Facebook. Each of them have their largest Technology Centres, outside their corporate headquarters at Hyderabad. They all are working on cutting edge Technologies.
I understand that Amazon Alexa, which is a virtual assistant developed by Amazon is doing its work here in Hyderabad.
Uber has its second largest global presence here in Hyderabad. Why did all these companies choose Hyderabad. There are four or factors to this. The major ones are value proposition and infrastructure development. We are twice cheaper in rent. Bangalore has half of the infrastructure that we have. High quality talent is abundantly available here. The employees loyalty here is much higher than any other city. While employee turnover is over 12 to 15 per cent, here in Hyderabad, it is 3 to 4 per cent.
Another reason why companies prefer Hyderabad over other cities is the kind of support government has been extending. Take for instance, through TASK, Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge, we train them at our cost employees and help employees. TASK has trained over 50,000 youth so far.
Hyderabad has become of the important e-Commerce his in the country. Nearly 26000 people are working for Amazon in Hyderabad. Jayesh Ranjan told the top leadership of JD Sports Fashion, now that you begun your journey in India, should you think of foraying into retail presence in this country, think of Hyderabad. IKEA entered in a large in our state. India is a profitable market, he told them. India is important market for sportswear manufacturing Jayesh told them.
Jayesh wished that they will outgrow in size and run short of space very soon. And cited an example of Uber, whose Centre of Excellence began with 300 people has now grown into 2500 people in the city. Uber is developing its own
Maps. That work is happening in Hyderabad, he told them. I am not a soothsayer but, you will run out of space very soon, he told them.
It is the only Technology Development Centre for them in India and first one outside UK and second one in the world.
The brand-new premises spread over 35,000 sft are located in Salarpuria Sattva Knowledge City, in Hi-Tech City, Hyderabad.
It has capacity to accommodate 500 people. Currently 200 are working and soon the number may go upto 500.
JD Sports Fashion started its operations in the city in 2016 in August with ten people and now has grown to 200 strong.
K.T. Rama Rao, Minister for IT, who was supposed to come for inauguration couldn’t make it due to mourning for the demise of former Prime Minister of India, Atal Behari Vajpayee, informed Jayesh Ranjan.
Mr. Dan Finley, Group Multi Channel Director. JD Sports; Mr. Paul Maxwell, Associate Director of Multichannel Technology of JD Sports and Becky Carter, Global Training Officer graced the inaugural
