Jalandhar October 9, 2013: Young Side of Punjab State Power Corp Ltd Patiala beat Corps of Signals Jalandhar by 4-3 in the first match of the 30th Servo Indian Oil Surjit Hockey Tournament at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here today.
Both teams display good and calculated hockey. In the 5th minute of the play PSPCL opened the account with field goal by Ravinder Singh (1-0). In the 16th minute of the play Manpreet Singh consolidated the lead with field goal (2-0). In the 32nd minute of the play Signal’s K S Rana converted the penalty stroke to reduce the margin (1-2). In the very next minute PSPCL’s Ravinder Singh struck once again (3-1). At half time PSPCL was leading by 3-1. In the 39th minute of the second half Signal’s mounted pressure and scored through penalty corner. This conversion done by Rahul Kumar (2-3). In the 60th minute of the play Manpreet Singh of PSPCL netted the ball from right flank (4-2). In the dying minutes of the game Signal’s Captain G Dass reduced the margin with field goal (3-4) but not able to equalise.
